Hi Rima,

Martin's summary is good!

I'd like to point out that there is also a script called rdnctiles
located in  MITgcm/utils/matlab/gmt  that does everything that rdmnc
can plus quite a bit more.  And (in my experience, anyway) it tends
to crash a bit less often.
