Hi Ed,
If only it were that simple! I began 2 weeks ago with Fedora core 2.. albeit a rather scratchy installation. The place i'm currently working at has some network settings that apparently disallow use of cvs to check out mitgcm - the local linux/IT guru scratched his head and said there was nothing he could do. Whenever i tried cvs login i was told 'connection refused', and the linux guru double checked that i was following the manual instructions precisely. Trying to get a few things with yum also failed, but not all. I tried to download GMT and netcdf but failed. In doubt about the Fedora installation (in particular the networking) i reinstalled linux - this time suse 10.1. It's been rather a struggle to get this far - to reinstall fedora, not knowing whether yum would actually be able to install stuff through this firewall.. well, i guess i'll get some fresh air over the weekend and see how i feel on monday!
Are you saying that my latest problem is the lack of netcdf or a clear gfortran problem?
cheers,
jill.
