Hi Jill,

You're installing things in /usr/irun so it seems that you have root
permissions on that machine.  If that is so, then could you please
consider switching to Fedora Core 4 or 5:

  http://fedora.redhat.com/

since, immediately following install, you can run (as root) just this
one command:

  yum install netcdf netcdf-devel compat-gcc-32-g77 gcc-gfortran

and have *everything* in place to use MITgcm (with netCDF!) with an
absolute minimum of fuss?  Honestly, you're wasting a lot of time with
the above and it surely beats working at the supermarket...!  :-)
