Hi Petter,

 You should definitely take the most recent checkpoint for this.
 Either of

   cvs co -d MITgcm_c54 -P -r checkpoint54 MITgcm

   http://mitgcm.org/download/MITgcm_checkpoint54.tar.gz

 will get you this.
