Postdoctoral Position in Physical Oceanography at the University of
Connecticut
The Department of Marine Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral scholar for
a
period of two years to collaborate on the application of a three
dimensional
model of the circulation on the inner shelf in the vicinity of a large
estuary. The central goal of the project is to develop a
nowcast-forecast
technology that uses inverse methods and/or data assimilation to exploit
telemetered data from a moored array and remotely sensed CODAR and AVHRR
data. The intent is to use this capability to investigate the dynamics
of
buoyancy influenced circulation in a region of complex bathymetry and
strong
tides. The successful candidate will be involved in both technical
development and scientific aspects of the project. Applicants should
have
earned a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography, or closely related area, and
have
some experience with numerical models. Salary and benefits will be
competitive. The review of applications will begin immediately and
continue
until the position is filled. We encourage applications from
under-represented groups, including minorities, women, and people with
disabilities.
Applicants should send a statement of their interests and experience, a
C.V.
and a list of at least three referees to Prof. James O'Donnell,
Department
of Marine Sciences, University of Connecticut, 1084 Shennecossett Road,
Groton, CT 06340; or (Fax) 860 405 9153; or (email)
