FYI:
A good part of the drift problem that Detlef reported at the 
ECCO meeting seems to stem from an old bug in external_forcing.F.
The short wave heating was scaled with the wrong layer 
thickness subsurface.
We had corrected it in c38 (April 2001) and I had merged
it into the ECCO repository in May (May 2001).
