Dear MITgcm Python Users,

Xmitgcm is a python package for reading MITgcm binary MDS files into xarray
<http://xarray.pydata.org/> data structures. Tonight we released xmitgcm
0.3.0, just in time for the ECCO summer school.

Besides many small bug fixes, this new version has the following new
features:

   - Ability to read ASTE grids
   - Ability to read seaice and thsice native output
   - Reading of optional grid files
   - Moved test data to figshare
   - Writing of binary files
   - Xarray 0.12 compatibility
   - Ability to read 2D slice diagnostics of 3D fields

Most of the work on this version was done by Raphael Dussin. Other
contributors included Timothy Smith, Mattia Almansi, Martin Losch, and Ian
Fenty.

To install from pip:

$ pip install xmitgcm

To install from conda

$ conda install -c conda-forge xmitgcm
(conda forge package has not built yet but should be up soon.)

There is still plenty of work to do on this package. We welcome your
feedback on our github issue tracker: https://github.com/xgcm/xmitgcm/issues

Cheers,
Ryan Abernathey
