[MITgcm-support] OBCS Tracer Errors

Hello all,

I'm new to MITgcm, and trying to model a river plume with tracers near the
inflow (though I've tried far from the inflow as well) using OBCS and
pTracers. My tracer concentrations are essentially exploding or ballooning
out with time. I start with a small amount of tracer, and I've tried making
the tracer easier for the simulation by applying smoothing, and inevitably
I end up with tracer concentrations on the order of E38 or more, and oddly
with negative tracer concentrations of about the same order. I've tried
numerous solutions, changing the tracer diffusivity and ensuring the tracer
was initially far from the inflow, as well as setting boundary conditions
for the tracer using OBCS ptr files at the open boundaries, and none of
this has worked. I'm wondering if there's some incompatibility between
pTracers and OBCS, or if I need to enable another package like RBCS to
reconcile all this.

Regards and thanks for whatever help you can offer.
