[MITgcm-support] noise near the bottom

Hi Jiatong,
I am not an expert on turbulence nor coding, so please only take my advice as a grain of salt. If your "noise" varies on grid scales and you have tried increasing the resolution, then I suppose they may very likely be grid scale noise. Also note in MITgcm, the bathymetry is in fact zigzagged, which may create some artificial noise. On the other hand, your bathymetry seems pretty rough? And turbulence is expected? So your noise could be a combination of the turbulence and the grid scale noise?
Hope this helps a bit.
Yangxin

Hi Yangxin,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, Jody has replied to me. I will try the Advection scheme 33 to see if the results turn out better.
However, as I write to Jody, I am confused by the depressions apart from isotherms. Are they all turbulence? or grid-scale noise?
Thanks a lot for all your help!
