[MITgcm-support] running MITgcm on macs (parallel setups)

Hi all:

I’m wondering if those of you running MITgcm on your mac could help me out: I’m trying to update the manual to describe (known) working mac configurations.

What I’ve discovered:

The darwin_amd64_[gfortran,ifort] optfiles seemed to work fine. Single process runs, no issues on my macbook (sierra).

I used homebrew to download/install openmpi, and ran this with gfortran. No installation or compilation issues, ran nicely.
But when I compiled multi-threaded (-omp) using gfortran, it runs, but very slowly, something chewing up system time. Verified similar problem on
a newer high sierra macbook. Is anyone running multi-threaded successfully on a mac using gfortran?

Using ifort, multi-threaded worked very nicely however. But to reconfigure the openmpi installation to work with ifort seemed a task which
I’ve not yet jumped into….anyone running ifort mpi on their mac?

I did not test pgi or other compilers… anyone using other fortrans on their mac?

Thanks in advance!
Jeff
