[MITgcm-support] How to pickup when using pkg/cal?

Michael, good catch, but that’s not the problem: "niter0=262980”
does not work either and (at least in the case of ifort) the compiler
automatically converts number to correct format.

I think, the bug has something to do with rounding and with
translation from date to time step, or vice versa.  I have run into
something like this in the past with pkg/cal (but forget details).

I am documenting the bug and work-around, since the 2004 thread
never received resolution and in case someone else accidentally runs
into same problem (or has a more permanent solution ready to go).
