The velocity field you describe sounds an awful lot like AVISO. If so, you might want to check out their most recent products, which are all on a regular 1/4 deg grid.

Is it possible to set up an irregular horizontal grid? I have a velocity field which is evenly spaced 1/3rd of a degree in the zonal direction, but the meridional spacings are uneven, and I'd like to try to introduce the field into the offline model without interpolating it.
