[MITgcm-support] [Taf-user] TAF version 2.4 and MITgcm

Dear MITgcm users,

I re-iterate that using the Fastopt patch is *not* recommended.
1. There is sufficient evidence that the even the new patch provided on March 6, 2013, does *not* perform properly.
2. We have not had the chance to assess the full implications on our core applications.
3. Using Fastopt's patch may break compatibility with further MITgcm code updates.
4. No MITgcm shortcomings are fixed by the patch.

The MITgcm team hopes to be able to continue making code development decisions based
on its own tests and assessments, instead of being forced by an outside company 
to perform poorly tested code changes.

In other news, we are pleased to announce that MITgcm is making a renewed 
effort to increase support for the open-source tool OpenAD, see
http://www.mcs.anl.gov/OpenAD/
to provide MITgcm users with more options.
