[MITgcm-support] What is the use of package layers?

Hi R,
Thank you for your kindness. My application is something about internal waves drived by tide(u v), which is modified from exp4. I’m not sure whether the layers should be used before your reply. And now, I think the package is unnecessary for me.
With Best Wishes,

Hi Lequan,
This package is in development. It is for computing volume transports averaged in iso[therma/pycnal] layers. This is useful for calculating residual circulations in eddy-resolving simulations. I hope to add documentation and examples soon.
What is your application? If you tell us more, I can tell you whether layers would be useful in your case.
I wasn't aware that layers had been put into exp4. I am a bit surprised in fact because layers is mainly only useful in eddy-resolving simulations.

Hi, all
I’m a new comer to MITgcm. I find a package called layers is used in exp4. And I think this package may also needed in my case. but I can’t find any information about it. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me the use of it.
With best wishes,
Lequan Chi
