just solved it, sorry.

I added these lines just after the offset computation.

    if (firstiter)
      S.i_first = i0;
      S.j_first = j0;
    end 
    i0 = i0 - S.i_first;
    j0 = j0 - S.j_first;
 
with firstiter, a flag set to 1 initially and changed to 0 after the first iteration. in that case, the first file has to be the south west corner
