[MITgcm-support] heuristics for sponge boundary parameters?

Hi Michael,
I use settings that have proved to be quite good for internal wave
problems, I hope it can help.
Say you have a forcing frequency w.
- number of points: as long as the horizontal wavelength of mode-1
internal waves of frequency w,
- [UV]relaxobcsinner = (2*pi/w)/1000,
- [UV]relaxobcsbound = 2*pi/w.
If you don't have too much of mode-1 internal waves which are the
hardest to absorb, you can reduce the number of points.
These parameters are quite efficient but the resulting sponges might
require a lot of points. If people know about less costly setups, I am
interested also.
Cheers,
Nicolas
