[MITgcm-support] About global boundary condition

Hi,
boundary conditions are cyclic/periodic by default, so that everything that leaves the domain on one end enters again at the opposite end.
The global examples with lat/lon grid in the verification directory make use of that. Just run one for a little longer and you'll immediately see that the east-west boundarie are by no means closed.
"Open boundary conditions" as I understand them "break" this periodicity in order to prescribe values at one end that DO NOT correspond to values at the opposite end of the domain. This type of BCs is also available in the obcs-package, but for a global model you do not (rather, should not/must not) need that.
