Should be because all names like mitgcm.org are translated to ip address 
numbers anyway.

Pinging for mitgcm.org:

nova:~$ ping mitgcm.org
PING mitgcm.org (128.31.2.31) 56(84) bytes of data.

so the ip address you're looking for is 128.31.2.31
