Hi Nicolas,

While you certainly could use an older version of MITgcm we do strongly
suggest that you use the latest from CVS or a recent checkpoint such as:

  http://mitgcm.org/download/MITgcm_checkpoint56.tar.gz

since a lot of bugs have been fixed over the past few months/years.
Also, we are more familiar with the newer code and are thus more likely
to be able to help you.

So, could you please send a little more information about your setup
including:

 - the hardware, OS, and compiler that you're using (eg: 'uname -a') 
 - the exact commands (please copy-and-paste) that you used to try 
     to compile it
 - the exact error (again, please copy-and-paste) message(s) that 
     you got
