Hi folks,

With the recent release of Fedora Core 4

  http://fedora.redhat.com/

there are now a number of packages in Fedora Extras that are probably
helpful for people using MITgcm and/or working on atmospheric or
oceanographic data. The new packages include netCDF, HDF5, ncview, and
the ever-popular NCO suite of utilities. So, if your desktop or laptop
is running Fedora Core 4 and has a network connection, then the packages
can be installed with just one command:

  1) become root
  2) run the command:
yum install ncview nco nco-devel cdo netcdf netcdf-devel \
         udunits udunits-devel perl-udunits hdf5 hdf5-devel

Versions of all the above are available for all three architectures
currently supported by Fedora Core 4 which are i386, x86-64, and
ppc/ppc64 (yes, FC4 will even run on your Mac hardware).

If you have problems with any of them then please file bug reports
against the offending package at:

  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/index.cgi

More packages are being added (eg. hdf v4 and opendap are in-progress)
and please email me if you would like to see others included.
