Hi Daniel,
After installing Fink (http://fink.sourceforge.net/), the g77 compiler
installs on the Mac OS X system with just a single command (run as
root):
apt-get install g77
After that, I had no problems with the compiler. In fact, I think it
compiled and ran every current test in the MITgcm verification suite.
I'm aware of two people who use the Mac OS X systems and are associated
with us:
1) Jamie (one of the Techsquare admins) has a Mac OS X laptop
but I don't know if he does any software development.
2) Martin Losch <mlosch at awi-bremerhaven.de> is an MITgcm
developer and he was probably the first to get MITgcm
running on Mac OS X system. Martin's emails were very
helpful (thanks, Martin!!!) when I used the G5.
And again, I *was* able to get recent versions of MITgcm (from CVS) to
compile and run on the G5. Come see me if you'd like help.
Ed
