Chris,

Thanks, I'll try the compiler flags you sent.  The old version is
partly inertia (if it works, why change) and partly because Alistair
said that not much that I make use of has changed since 38, and
there is planned a major new release this fall.  Do you agree, or
do you think it is worth changing now?
