Updated comparison of botom pressure data with barotropic Kalman filter
results (kf019) and control integration (c20000630):

Results reported in previous message[1] have been augmented with the
pressure gauge data of P.Woodworth and R.Peterson. The data are the
so-called level-4[2] data previously processed Raghu for the Fukumori et
al., 1999 JGR article. (The data span to end of 1996 and need to be
updated. I sent a message to R. Peterson on december 11 for this purpose
but have not heard back.) Raw time series comparisons are here[3] .
Updated skill table, with summary figure[4] , follow:

where skill is defined as:

(Residual Variance Simulation) - (Residual Variance Assimilation)
100 * -----------------------------------------------------------------
                              Variance Data

The BEMPEX[5] pressure gauge data has also been obtained from Doug
Luther, but that data spans 1986-1987 and has not been used for Kalman
filter evaluation.
