Alistair,
currently I am running simple process studies to improve the overflow
across the sills east and west of Iceland. This is done in colloboration
with Rolf Kaese who is visiting or group for three months.
Among other things we've played around with the free slip option at the
bottom (no_slip_bottom=.FALSE.). It turned out that there is only a very
small difference in the velocity when running free slip or no slip at
the bottom. We are worrying about the implementation of this option. In
calc_mom_rhs.F (c24 or c30) vf is calculated different if no_slip_bottom
is switched on or off - but over the whole water column and not only in
the deepest wet box.
Are you aware of any problems regarding this option? Why is there a
difference in the calculation over the whole water column. As we
understand the code correctly the option no_slip_bottom-.TRUE. would
double the vertical viscosity in every grid box.
