Dear Angel,

Chris Edwards at the University of Conneticut
has been doing coastal work with MITgcm for several
years. There are some web pages at http://nopp.uconn.edu
that discuss the work that is being done in this project.
The coastal region is smaller than the Peruvian coast,
but they are driving the model with external forcing from
the open ocean. The example configurations in the
model documentation do not yet cover this topic.
However, the code itself does contain the features you need to
drive a simulation with external lateral forcing.
I suggest you talk with Chris Edwards and see if he
is willing to provide you with some advice on getting
started.

Dear Gentlemen:
We at the Weather Service in Peru, are very interested in using the
MITgcm to simulate
some regional circulations, atmospheric and oceanic, in South America.
In particular we
would like to run a regional oceanic model for the Peru coast where the
upwelling and
coastal Kelvin waves are common phenomena.

The question is how we can handle the initial and boundary conditions,
which we are
thinking in obtainning from a Pacific Oceanic run from NCEP. We also can
use some
data from local measurements in regional cruisses.

Although we have not finished reading the documentation, in a first
reading we could not
find an answer to our question. Please accept our apologies in case the
answer is in
the manual.

Thanks for your time
Angel Cornejo
