Michael, I forward your request to the MITgcm Devel list.
We are supposed to receive new instructions from Gael on
how to proceed by end of day or early tomorrow.

Gael, could you take a look at Michael's request below.
I think it's best if you do this change as you are more familiar
with what seaice_growth code is supposed to do.
