oops.  forgot to answer second question.
only the older (3700's) columbia boxes are going away.
the newer (4700's) boxes are staying for foreseeable
future for problems that require large amounts of shared
memory and can't be accommodated by pleiades.

let me know how you want to proceed re optfile.
We can go back to older (-mp) default if you like
and convert Constantino's suggestions to comments
