Are above stripes in sea-ice or in ocean variables?  Stripes in ocean variables 
often results from KPP scheme.  Basic physics are that:
1. stratified water leads to lower K which keeps water stratified
2. well mixed water leads to higher K which keeps water well mixed

The default KPP horizontal 121 filters help but do not completely remove them. 
There's more potent filters turned off by default but available to use, if they 
are needed.
