I have changed exf_init_gen so that it reads a file only if
( genfile .NE. ' ' .and. genperiod .eq. 0. )
which should take care of situations such as the one you describe above.

The more I learn about AWI, the less I feel mistreated here at JPL.  Two days 
before this past Christmas I received an e-mail from JPL supercomputing advising 
me that I had one week to reduce my tape silo usage by a factor of 40.  Neat eh!
