Hi Martin,

these angles are actually in the grid file:
 > ncdump grid.t001.nc
... (snip) ...
         double AngleCS(Y, X) ;
                 AngleCS:description = "Cos of grid orientation angle  
at cell cen
ter" ;
         double AngleSN(Y, X) ;
                 AngleSN:description = "Sin of grid orientation angle  
at cell cen
ter" ;

I think they're also in the .mitgrid file,
at least from looking at code ini_curvilinear_grid.F

Finally, Chris has started the heroic effort to write matlab
script for plotting vectors. Maybe he can send u latest version.

We're making progress on LLC grid runs, see
http://mitgcm.org/~heimbach/llc_setup/
for 15-level runs (still problems with 50-level runs)
