Hi Jinlun, one more question regarding growth.F.  Is HSNOW supposed to be 
"actual" or "effective" snow thickness, i.e., is the total amount of snow volume 
per m^2 in each grid box supposed to be "HSNOW" or "AREA*HSNOW"?

My reading of code is that some places HSNOW is assumed to be "actual" and some 
places it is assumed to be "effective" snow thickness, which may explain, in 
part, the high adjoint and tangent linear sensitivity that Patrick notes.
