Thanks for the reply, though I seem to have everything in as you indicated...

Compile script:

module purge
module load modules mpt.1.12.0.nas intel-comp.8.0.070 scsl.1.5.0.0
optfile='../../../tools/build_options/linux_ia64_ifort+mpi_altix_nas'

make CLEAN;
../../../tools/genmake2 -mods='../code' -of=$optfile -mpi
make depend
make

And then I dump out my loaded modules right before the mpirun command:

Currently Loaded Modulefiles:
   1) modules              3) intel-comp.8.0.070
   2) mpt.1.12.0.nas       4) scsl.1.5.0.0
MPI: columbia2: 0x371d000042bc9289: mitgcmuv: error while loading 
shared librari
es: libmpi.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Maybe I can try and track down someone here Monday morning to help 
get me going...
