[MITgcm-devel] awk on SunOS

Hi Ed,
I have tracked down the problem with Sun's awk. Sun's /usr/bin/awk 
thinks that the following line has a syntax error:
                 extn=`echo $sf | $AWK -F '.' '{print $NF}'`
In fact, if you replace it by:
                 extn=`echo $sf | $AWK -F'.' '{print $NF}'`
everything is fine (no space between -F and '.', the '' are not 
necessary for Sun's awk, either). Do you think that the second line is 
general enough for all other awks? If so, I would suggest changing that 
so that we can go back to a generic awk in sunos_sun4u_* files.
