Yes, I am in the process of adding diagnostics in gmredi pkg
to replace (+ some new fields) what timeave do.
I don't want to remove timeave for now, until diagnostics 
is implemented everywhere (where timeave is) and well tested.

But I don't think that gmredi can be a general "template", because it
does not have any "state" variables.
