What's there right now is exactly the opposite of what you describe 
above.  That is, the time stamp of the time-average quantity is at the 
end of the averaging interval, not in the middle as you would like it. 
Instead the snapshots seem to have inherited the timestamp that was 
intended for the time averages ;-)  No wonder I was puzzled.
