I forgot to ask:

Since this has to be done whenever the matrix package is used, can I put
these statements in S/R MATRIX_INIT ? That is, these settings are not
example-specific, but always applicable when useMATRIX=.TRUE. It will not
interfere with regular use of pkg/ptracers.
