Hello Ed,

I was thinking of a simplification of the different switches for
mdsio & mnc:

I still think that it's nice to be able to select mnc output
or mdsio ouput on a outout type bases (pickup, monitor, timeave,
snapshot). I think it will help users to make the transition 
mdsio -> mnc. (suppose that I want to make a movie and write 
snapshot with mnc but I don't want yet to turn the timeave 
output to mnc, because my script are not yet able to read 
mnc output ; same thing with monitor).

But regarding the IO-inclusive option, (pickup_write_ioinc, 
 timeave_ioinc, snapshot_ioinc, monitor_ioinc)
we could have a single flag valid for all type of output.
Since we agree that it's mainly there to check that the 
mnc output and mdsio output are the same, and will not
be use when the model is in "production" mode (why should I
write 2 times the same field), one single flag will do the job.

What do you think ?
