Hi Patrick,

Yes, the SX-6 Fortran compiler was not happy with the C routines.  A
quick and dirty fix is to delete the two C files completely from the
directory ("rm -f timer_stats.[co] tim.[co]") and then also comment them
out from the Makefile.  That results in a successful build.  *Please*
let me know if that binary fails to run.

A more general long-term solution is for us to either stop using C
entirely (which is more-or-less impossible if we go with NetCDF) or
start using "cfortran.h":
