All,

 Here is the latest from the road. I created a _rx form for the exch2_
changes and tried to undo as many of my debugging steps. Unfortunately I
didn't think to keep a separate directory of CVS checkout so I'm not sure I
rembered everything I had done. Nevertheless here is what it looks like:

 1. exch2_uv needs the wider loop mods that were in the exch2_uv_xyz_rl.F I
posted to JM and devel yesterday.
 2. to exactly reproduce the exch1_ behavior with wider loops it also needs
to have the null region zeroing that is in that code too.
 3. with 1. and 2. I can get the exact same numbers with exch1_ or exch2_
provided I turn off non-linear free surface stuff.
 4. when I turn on non-lin free surface everything breaks!

 The slightly weird thing I haven't resolved is
 o with exch2_uv_xy_rl.F I seem to get a different way of crashing with
non-lin free surf than with exch1 even though
   I have written out a full 2d field after the two exchanges and compared
them in octave and they appear the same.

 JM/Alistair can you get Andy to double check 3. and 4. and then help with
figuring out whether it's a problem in calc_rstar or a problem in
exch2_uv_xy
