Hi Martin,

We had a meeting some months ago where it was decided that the default
behavior was a good thing since users would be a lot less likely to
accidentally delete previous runs.  So I think the no-overwrite behavior
stays.

But I do agree that the current error message is lousy.  I'll look into
the code and change it so that the error message says something like:

  "ERROR:  MNC will not overwrite variables in existing NetCDF 
   files -- please make sure that you aren't trying to 
   overwrite output from a previous model run."

And would that be enough for you?
