mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:#303030">A postdoctoral position in physical oceanography is available in the Division of Marine Science at The University of Southern Mississippi. The successful
candidate will work on the Task Force Ocean (TFO) project “Modeling, characterizing, and predicting effects of internal gravity waves on acoustic propagation on basin to global scales”, which is supported by a grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR).
This three-year project is a cross-disciplinary effort between physical oceanographers, ocean-acoustic and sonar-performance-prediction modelers, and specialists in machine learning to model, characterize, and predict the acoustic effects of internal gravity
waves. The main goal of this sub-project is to advance our understanding of internal gravity waves in global HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM) simulations: i.e., their generation, dissipation, and their interactions with the mean flow. Ultimately, a better
understanding of internal gravity waves may aid the development of mixing parameterizations used in climate model simulations.<br>
