on the Julia side if that helps :
- MITgcm.jl <https://gaelforget.github.io/MITgcm.jl/dev/> supports the various MITgcm grids and file formats, including for cube spheres
- MeshArrays.jl <https://juliaclimate.github.io/MeshArrays.jl/dev/> supports vector operation <https://juliaclimate.github.io/MeshArrays.jl/dev/tutorials/vectors.html> and visualization <https://juliaclimate.github.io/MeshArrays.jl/dev/tutorials/geography.html>, including for cube spheres
