Hi Dan,

Yes there is no linkage between shelfice and frazil. I may look into frazil pkg and check its details.

Just to add that there is a “frazil” package but I’m unsure what it does; and I do not believe it currently interfaces with pkg/shelfice.

Hi yilang

If your question is whether MITgcm represents frazil ice formation and accretion, I do not believe that it does.

Dear MITgcm users,

I have a question on the capability of SHELFICE package. Does the SHELFICE code have the capability to consider refreezing (ice accretion) in the ice shelf cavity or could it be modified to include that? I was looking at some paper on this (e.g., https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2012JC008214<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefense.us%2Fv3%2F__https%3A%2F%2Fagupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com%2Fdoi%2Ffull%2F10.1029%2F2012JC008214__%3B!!PvBDto6Hs4WbVuu7!fp9YWGEYwj7HaAIwOXT-65Drz941rSy4kZd5lyIagqJ7_ihM4qcBs2R-aiBh4koBLwT7iXynFzU%24&data=05%7C01%7Cyxu%40whoi.edu%7C9ef67b93770a449d617808da47132153%7Cd44c5cc6d18c46cc8abd4fdf5b6e5944%7C0%7C0%7C637900444734146791%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Y4gfRhqeeuL1X9QUZKHTKJwdn0M34Vuql%2FgsZICeaCw%3D&reserved=0>) and wondering if MITgcm can model this process.

Thanks,
Yilang
