Dear MITgcm support forum,
This is a theoretical question not related to the running of the code.
1. I would like to see the full algorithm being implemented to solve the
barotropic ocean gyre problem, (in mathematical form as opposed to in a
code language).
There is some explanation in the documentation, but it only deals with the
time evolution, and stops dead at the point where the spatial integrals
have to be taken.
2. How does the code deal with the addition of very large numbers? Delta x
is of order 10^6, so presumaby the variables in the equation get rescaled
before any kind of iterative routine is applied.
Best
