Thank you so much for your answer. It is what I understood as well (I use the seaice package indeed) but I wanted to be sure :)

Hi Sandy,

I think that (based on dic_fields_update.F where fIce is overwritten by ice fields) you do not need DIC_iceFile if you are usuing the seaice pkg (which I assume you are using because you mentioned pickup_seaice files).
I haven’t tried this myself, but it looks to me as if you don’t need to do anything specific in this case and all the flags are taken care of automatically in the code.
