[MITgcm-support] how to use windstress to calculate wind speed

Hi Qihua,

the runtime flag you need is
 useAtmWind=.FALSE.,
in data.exf, then the model computes wind vector and wind speed from the stress (check out exf_wind.F)

See EXF_OPTIONS.h for more CPP-options (but be aware that, except for adjoint snapshots the EXF_ATM_WIND option is mostly obsolete and replaced by the runtime flag useAtmWind)

But I don't have total wind speed data, I know MITgcm can calculate wind stress and total wind speed from zonal and meridioanl wind speed data, I was wondering if MITgcm can calculate total wind speed through zonal and meridioanl wind stress data.
