[MITgcm-support] Sea Ice Melt Partitioning in MITGCM

Hi all,

Coming across something I don't quite understand in the MITGCM
thermodynamic sea ice code: when a heat flux is used to melt ice in
thsice_calc_thickn.F , it is partitioned between concentration melting and
thickness melting according to a "power-law" relationship, which seems a
bit peculiar, and requires THSICE_FRACEN_POWERLAW to be def-ed, which it
is by default.

This was written into the code a while (8 years!) ago and, it isn't cited.
I can't find something similar in the CICE documentation, for example. Was
wondering if perhaps anyone might comment on this usage and whether it is
appropriate?

Chris
