Dear All:
We are now trying to familiarize ourselves with MITgcm, but come across some problems. Hope you could give us some hints.
1) How can I know which figure is the right output figure and the way to generate it?
Having learned the tutorial about exp2 and exp4 in the user manual, we wrote some shell and matlab scripts, with which all those output (i.e. data/meta) files in directory "verification/.../run" were visualized and saved as jpg files. However, those experiments in user manual show some other output figures, which are not those figures we generate simply from data/meta files and we have not figure out how to generate the right output figures. For example, in Section 3.13 Global Ocean Simulation at 4 Resolution in Pressure Co-ordinates (i.e. tutorial_global_oce_in_p), the figure 3.5 is not among the figures we generated.
Though some experiments provide README files and matlab scripts (e.g. lookat_ice.m in experiment lab_sea), not every experiment provide these files. The user manual does not mention how to generate the right figures for those experiments either.
2) In a particular experiment, are all those equations user-specified or build-in MITgcm? For a particular experiment in the User Manual, do they cover all the equations the experiment refers to?
3) To conduct a simple experiment with MITgcm, the only thing I need to do is just modify the parameters in directory input? I think for a single experiment I need not modify the configurations in directory code, am I right?
I will be really grateful if you could spare some time to give me some guidance!
Yours Sincerely,
Jing Liu
