[MITgcm-support] files size on disk is too large

I can only speculate, but it's possible that the "inode"-size (the smallest unit) of your file system is fairly large, so that small files take up the size of one inode. E.g. if the inode size it 4MB (as one one of the computers that I use), then a file of 3kB takes up the entire 4MB.

Hi Martin,
The file size of the output, I run a case and put all the output files into one folder, and then right click the folder and choose properties. The actually size of all tge files is about 70.8 GB, I don't know why the Size on disk is so large.
Cheers!

Filesize of what? the executable, the output, the entire filesystem MITgcm including subdirectories? What do you do to get these numbers?
