Dear MITGCM users,
first I want to thank Dave , Jean-Michel and Ryan for their help and useful suggestions in the previous post about momentum balance: averaging over many time steps gave me a good agreement between TOTUTEND/86400 and Um_Advec+Um_Diss+Um_dPHdx+dEta/dx+Um_ExternalForcings. Now I’m facing the question about the computation of vorticity balance. To compute vorticity I need to apply the curl to each member of momentum equation.
My question is : Should I apply the curl in the form that is applied to U,V velocity fields as the model does to each member of Momentum budget (Um_Advec+Um_Diss+Um_dPHdx+dEta/dx+Um_ExternalForcings and Vm_Advec+Vm_Diss+Vm_dPHdx+dEta/dy+Vm_ExternalForcings) or there exists another to discretize the curl which might more suitable for this kind of computations (for example in the case of pressure terms)?I’ve already applied the model formula to my U,V output to compute Z3 and it works great.
Looking forward to a response to my mail
Cheers
Marco
